Amsterdam, May 2006 is a set of 46 photos snapped during the excellent XTech06 conference.

A couple of presentations I put together for the W3C track at WWW2006 on Web Services Addressing and XML Schema Patterns for Databinding. It was my great pleasure to share the floor with Jacek and Hugo!

Marc says “Medicine is like security, it’s all obfuscation through terminology.”. I conjured up “Security is like Hi-Fi, you can always spend more money on it”, but am now wondering about “Security is like the NHS, there is always another patient to treat” .. thinks ..

Here’s a short presentation (slides 2.5 MB PDF, text below) I just gave as a part of Eric’s panel at the W3C AC meeting. [update: fixed the link!]

Great article from Werner Vogels on the Amazon Technology Platform, my favorite quote being:
Do we see that customers who develop applications using AWS care about REST or SOAP? Absolutely not! A small group of REST evangelists continue to use the Amazon Web Services numbers to drive that distinction, but we find that developers really just want to build their applications using the easiest toolkit they can find. They are not interested in what goes on the wire or how request URLs get constructed; they just want to build their applications.
Yup, developers just want to write code to buy that book, not buy into an ethos.

As much as I love the new Central Park Studio site, it doesn’t, well I mean really cannot, do full justice to Deanna’s artwork which has to be seen in the flesh to grasp the fine detail and ideally bathed in the Californian light which it reflects and refracts beautifully.

You know for those of us who might be inclined to string garlic and build coherent arguments against enterprisey architectures and Snakes On A Plane SOAP, it would help enormously to have a Just Use HTTP answer for the wonderful Infocard.

Another year, and another quiz sheet for the school Spring Fair. The theme of this year’s event is “The Circus”, so the subject of each picture has either “Circus” or “Clown” in its name, or is something closely related to the circus. I’ll post the answers after the prize draw. Enjoy! Update: now with answers.

Through the magic of the web, a snap I took at Toronto Film Festival featuring the backs of Tom and Glen’s heads has ended up as a flyer for the Bodrum Film Festival. Thanks, Kirpi!
