I’m down as a “Socialist” and as someone who exhibits “a very well-developed sense of Right and Wrong and believe in economic fairness”. Sadly, I seem to be less permissive than previously. Reading the obituaries for Robin Cook I was struck how well his resignation speech stands up today. He’ll be missed, and not just by the likes of Dead Ringers.

Burried amongst the acres of newsprint describing the awful events in London last week were some lucid comments from that old curmudgeon, Richard Ingrams:

Muslims have been sternly lectured in most of the papers about the need for them to change their ways - to adapt, to integrate, to control the fanatical elements. Nowhere have I seen any suggestions that the non-Muslims might also have an obligation of sorts to change their ways.

I’ve enjoyed the Radio 4 series Chain Reaction, the premise of the programme is that last week’s guest interviews this week’s and so on. Tonight’s episode (sadly not a cool URI) had Brian Eno being interviewed by Alan Moore:

Moore: your choice of luxury on Desert Island Discs wasn’t your initial thought of “a lifetime supply of interesting drugs”, rather “a giant man eating spider” to keep you alert ..

Eno: no, i don’t think that’s true!

Moore: OK, but if you had said that, imagine, then given the current terrorist actuated global situation, have we all been given the luxury of our own giant man eating spider?

Eno: Yes!

i also liked the Noam Chomsky quote “there are now only two super-powers: the USA and world opinion”.

Len: “I don’t think so. That would be too much like listening to your ex-wife’s husband talk about renovating your house …”, ouch!

So according to Bill Gates, as a free culture advocate i’m a commie. Guess i’ve just been duck typed given as i’ve already disclosed here, i’m a libertarian, a leftie, and 55% hippie, man. OTOH Bill could be barking, like a dog.

From tonight’s cracking HIGNFY “Congratulations to President Bush on winning his first election”. “They’d be better off with Bagpuss“. If you wondered how Americans could be so stupid as to vote for Bush, then don’t forget they also think Fraiser’s Daphnie and her family come from Manchester. Bush and Osama need each other, they’re like The Two Ronnies, “so it’s jihad from me and war on terrorism from him, goodnight”.

I thought it looked like a Bush landslide until it was explained most people live on the coast.
