The Tring Museum currently has a small exhibition of dressed fleas. These were made by a Mexican women and dated from 1905. Included in the collection were a bull and matador and several brides and grooms which were apparently often given as wedding presents.

for years my family and friends have been having a laugh on me since I told them I had seen fleas dressed in Mexican outfits. I can finally be vindicated by showing them this page!!!
i also now feel fully vindicated no one believed me and it brought me great shame and frustration
howdy, i have a pair of fleas dress as bride and groom. i would like as much info about them as i can get. any info would be appreciated. thansk, marty
Does anyone know where dressed fleas still can be purchased in Mexico? Thanks for any help.
A favorite Aunt of mine recently passed away…One of my favorite things to do when I visited with her was to look in awe through the large magnifying glass at her ‘collection’ of four boxes, each containing a pair of pulgadas vistidas !
Three of the boxes (all were about 1.5″ by 1″) were labled as having come from a novelty company in Califonia. The other box has a hand written “Elena’s Jewellry,
Guadalarja Mexico. This last contains the most detailed pair. The woman is holding a beautiful parasol.
When my brother sent me the last of my aunt’s things, the fleas were in the package! My grandchildren have already fought over the magnifying glass!
Because they were in my aunt’s possesion since at least 1902, they may be even older.
I’m quite sure that these wonderful little marvels are still being made all over
Mexico….I have searched the web and this blog is the best place I colud find..
It’s good to know that I’m not alone in my appreciation of this rather bizarre art form.

Does anyone have any other photos/ Any suggestions on how to photograph mine?
The dressed fleas at Tring left a alsting impression on me as a child. Now I have boys of my own I have taken great pleasure in educating them about the fleas!!. We now live in Australia so we can tell the other side of the world about them!
Amazing! I’m currently putting together an exhibition on flea circuses and would love to include some dressed fleas. If anybody has any specimens of the little critters they would be prepared to sell (or exchange for flea circus memorabilia), please get in touch!

My mom had a set of the bride and groom fleas. She had picked up some place when she was a flight attendant a flew all over the states.
Notice how I said had. When I was very small I opened the box and one dropped on the floor. It was the bride. We never found her again. Still to this day my mom brings it up, as much as possible. If anyone knows where I could buy a bride please let me know.

Hi guys. I have been ridiculed by my class at college about the dressed flea. No one believed me but now I can be happy that they know the truth. How do I get get one to show them?
Two of my learners Carla and Tommy are fascinated too.
Thanks for your help.
I too have been laughed at for many years concerning my Fleas. It is nice to find other flea fans.
