As of tomorrow US immigration will fingerprint and photograph all UK visitors. So this is how Bush rewards countries who are ‘with him’. I somehow doubt this action would have prevented 9/11 or helped in the subsequent investigation, but I am sure it’s going to upset a lot of otherwise moderate people. “I understand HOW: but I do not understand WHY.”

They’ve had MY prints, and photographs from every possible angle for some time now. All part of the Immigration process. My thoughts on this are: I am not so worried about the act of fingerprinting or photographing…. I am more concerned when they finally work out how to PROCESS the information efficiently! Right now they are hopelessly understaffed, and those who work there haven’t a clue what to do. After all, it took them 5 years to get my Green Card processed, during which time SOMEONE in the Immigration department LOST my original application. Fearing reprisals, or worse, dismissal, the person concerned made up a new application number out of the Blue, and tried to tell ME that I had not applied until 2002! Unfortunately my own filing system was more meticulous than THEIRS, and I had photocopied and KEPT every single piece of paper relating to my Immigration application! So I merely faxed a copy to my Congressman, who forwarded the document in question to the Immigration people, as evidence. My Green Carrd arrived, unannounced, a week later!
