Preparing for another trip next week i was struck by how much copper and plastic gubbins i stick in my backpack. That's without my laptop which Bijan nicely described as "a boat" (i really should have bought a Mac :) Take a look at the Flickr image for details.

  1. I find that I can greatly reduce the number of chargers and cables; e.g., get a USB phone charger, get a short firewire cable and an adapter to charge the iPod from the computer, use a PCMCIA card, and not a cable, to transfer photos, etc.

Yes, a Mac would help, but you knew I was going to say that ;) Of course, it's a double-edged sword; I also carry around an iSight to videoconference, so that takes up more room.

I notice you don't seem to have a PDA; does anybody, anymore?

  2. I find I can greatly reduce the number of items I need to take on trips because, well actually I rarely go on trips! Anyway marras, yes, at last i am the proud owner of the knowledge concerning marras means!!!!! In Ambleside there is watering hole up a back street called The Golden Rule, where it is said Chris Bonnington frequents when in Ambleside. Further down the road is another public house called The Unicorn and on the wall is a poster advertising "The West Cumbrian ancient and honourable association of marras". "What or who is Marras?" I asked, and they told me.

  3. Hey Mark, i gave up on my PDA since i either have my phone or my laptop with me. i guess if my laptop had a full sized firewire, that would cut down on the ipond charger and my next camera is going to use a mini USB cable.

As for you, Mr Warriner me owd marra, you do go on lots of 'trips', and have been know to stop over with us 'down sauf' armed with mobile and charger!

  4. Fabulous image Paul.. if I may refer you to http://www.artchive.com/artchive/B/braque.html to see your illustrious forebears.. any subconscious influence there?

I can even see potential for a student project...

  5. nice one nick, i think i may enter the RA Summer Exhibition this year :)
