Sunday, and a family jaunt out to see Rachel Whiteread’s installation at the Tate Modern. Entitled “EMBANKMENT” it’s either 1,400 or 14,000 (the curator didn’t seem to know) white boxes stacked at one end of the turbine hall. Verdict: an interesting idea on paper, and the kid’s loved it, but ultimately as empty as the boxes themselves. Maybe that was the point!

The photos are pretty sweet!
I also asked for confirmation of the number but got a worse response than you. She said she knew it was 14!!! I said hundred or thousand and that is the question that blew her away. It’s got to be 14000. Even one of the small piles had 200 in it. I preferred the stanchions holding the walls up though. It didn’t inspire, excite or otherwise fire my enthusiasm at all.
